The Red Legged Partridge can also be known as the French Partridge, as it was introduced to the UK from Europe in the eighteenth century as a new game species.  It breeds in the wild, but can also be bred and released for local shoots.  It has distinctive markings and is a very attractive species that is found most often in the east of the country.
