This pair of hares are having a boxing match in the breeding season, when this behaviour can be seen due to hares looking for a mate.  This is part of the activities of the “Mad March Hare”.   It is thought that the number of hares in the UK has decreased greatly over the last century, and they are no longer the common sight they used to be.
